I love learning new things and solving problems with code.

Before joining the tech industry, I was a field biologist studying the ecology and evolution of parasites. I learned to program in R to statistically analyze my data and was hooked. I finished my PhD, joined a coding bootcamp, and started a new adventure in software. I think my liberal arts degree and training as a professor are strong advantages in this industry. Plus, I have great fieldwork stories to entertain coworkers over lunch!

Courage is more exhilarating than fear and in the long run it is easier. We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each thing that comes up, seeing it is not as dreadful as it appeared, discovering we have the strength to stare it down.
